About Me

I am an experienced and professionally qualified Psychotherapist and Counsellor. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Dublin Business School, and as a member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy I adhere to their Code of Ethics, which supports high professional standards.

I adopt an integrative approach towards my clients that incorporates a variety of therapeutic models, including psychodynamic, person-centred, relational and behavioural. I offer a safe, confidential, supportive and nonjudgmental space in which to explore the issues you are encountering.

You may wish to discuss a current situation at home or in work that is bothering you. You might be feeling overwhelmed by simple day-to-day tasks. You could be having difficulty in forming and maintaining relationships. Or perhaps you are struggling to let go of something from your past. These issues and many more can be worked through in therapy, and that is where I can help. I will work with you to try to help you deal with whatever dilemmas you may be facing.

I have experience of working with a broad range of issues including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, stress, addiction and addictive behaviour, alcohol and substance abuse, low self-esteem, family and relationship issues, eating disorders and phobias.

Frequently Asked Questions

Counsellors and Psychotherapists are trained to work closely with you to enable you to explore thoughts, beliefs, feelings and behaviours that affect your life negatively. Through Counselling and Psychotherapy you are given the support and safety to explore, understand and often to change these thoughts, beliefs, feelings and behaviours. The personal growth that can then take place can free you from the limitations of old patterns. This can allow more realistic and effective ways of improving the quality, contentment and satisfaction of your life to emerge.
Counselling and Psychotherapy are often considered to be interchangeable therapies that overlap in a number of ways. The key difference between the two therapeutic processes lies in the recommended time required to see benefits. Counselling usually refers to a shorter, more targeted treatment that centres around specific patterns of behaviour. Psychotherapy typically focuses on working with clients for an extended period, and draws from insight into general emotional problems and difficulties that may require deeper exploration. I have received extensive training as both a Counsellor and Psychotherapist.
There really is no simple answer to this question, as it will depend on what kind of issues you are experiencing. During your first session you can discuss this with me, and we can either agree on an open-ended arrangement or else decide on a fixed number of sessions. A suggested initial plan might be to work together for approximately six sessions and then review whether to continue further.
The length of a session is 50 minutes.
The cost per session is €70. A discounted rate is available for students and retirees, as well as for low-waged and unemployed clients.
Generally speaking, sessions are held on a weekly basis. This allows the relationship between the Therapist and client to develop effectively, as the therapy is regular and consistent. The client can also gain a faster and deeper understanding of their experiences this way. In some cases, sessions may take place on a fortnightly basis by agreement with your Therapist.
Should you need to cancel a session, Matter of Heart Psychotherapy requires at least 48 hours notice. If you are unable to cancel your appointment within this timeframe, you will be asked to pay a cancellation fee for the missed session, which will be agreed upon at your first meeting with your Counsellor or Psychotherapist.
Counselling and psychotherapy are totally confidential services in almost all situations. However, it is important to point out that in certain circumstances ethical and legal obligations must be considered, such as the Child Protection Act (protecting the rights and welfare of children and minors). Your Therapist will fully explain confidentiality to you in your first session.
